Naming Ceremony

A naming ceremony is an opportunity for parents to announce the names that have been chosen for the child/children in the presence of invited family members and friends, whether through welcoming them to the world or re-affirming their love and commitment.

This is a special occasion created by you for your child/children and is a beautiful way to welcome and celebrate the birth of a new baby, adopted child/children or stepchild/children into your family.

At the ceremony, you will make promises of commitment to the child/children, which is a way of saying that you will be the best parents you can be.

What can I offer:

· As a celebrant I am able to offer a bespoke ceremony which provides an opportunity for you to share your love to your child with your friends and family.

· The ceremony is different to a religious christening, and there is no age limit, but you can be assured I will work alongside you to ensure this is an incredibly special event that is tailored to suit your child’s age and family situation. As a parent, we can work alongside each other to plan and design the ceremony and as there are no legal requirements or restrictions, the ceremony will be tailored to your child/children and family.

What can you expect from a naming ceremony:

· Introductions and welcomes

· A poem or reading (you may wish to ask a member of your family or close friend).  You may include more than one of each, and as a celebrant I will be guided by you to ensure the ceremony meets your expectation and enjoyment on the day.

· Storytelling about the child/children

· Sharing your role and responsibilities as a parent and any promises you make to your child/children

· Inclusion of your family and friends and the wider community (if desired)

· The appointment of guide parents and the promises they will make to your child/children

· You may wish to share the significance behind a child/children’s names

· The naming itself

· Concluding words
